52 Frames - Week Seven - My Other Hobby - Edmonton Photographer
My selected image for Week Seven - My Other Hobby
Week seven's topic was "My Other Hobby".
Playing music is my main other hobby. Since in the week one challenge my self portrait was of me playing my flute, I thought I'd include my guitar for this week's challenge.
I'd love to hear about your hobbies in the comments below!
52 Frames - Week Six - Complementary Colours - Edmonton Photographer
A bit of colour theory and my submitted photo for this week's 52 Frames Challenge.
Week six's topic of the 52 Frames Challenge was Complementary Colours.
From Wikipedia:
Complementary colors are pairs of colors which, when combined, cancel each other out. This means that when combined, they produce a grey-scale color like white or black.[1] When placed next to each other, they create the strongest contrast for those particular two colors. Due to this striking color clash, the term opposite colors is often considered more appropriate than "complementary colors".

I struggled a bit with this one. My first instinct was to just run and grab the Lego, Play-doh, Rubik's Cube, paint, or other super obvious brightly coloured object containing complementary colours. I took a few shots, but just didn't make a connection with them.
A little while later, I noticed Townes' brightly coloured orange diaper with the blue snaps. Complementary colours! Off we went to the only plain, usable wall in our tiny house - in Elliot's room. He was excited because it meant he could jump on the bed.
Seeing the final image did make me a bit sad though, as it was a reminder that my baby is not so much a baby any more. His baby chub is disappearing. His cute cloth diapers will soon be a thing of the past. And the little tuft of hair at the top of the frame shows how long his little mullet is getting - and that I refuse to cut it. haha.
This week's photo:
It's a bit subtle - not an in-your-face shot of colour - but I like that.
I am enjoying that this project is helping me try different things and continue to shoot for myself in new ways.
Are you working on a photo or personal project this year? I'd love to hear about it in the comments below.
Beautiful Edmonton Hoar Frost - Edmonton Family Photographer
A selection of images from a beautiful winter day full of hoar frost in Edmonton.
This is a bit of a continuation to my last blog entry, so if you haven't read that one, you can do so here.
---
I wanted to share more from our afternoon out in the snowy winter wonderland that Edmonton was last week.
The kids had such a good time running and jumping around in and on the snow. The temperature wasn't too cold - it really was the perfect day to be outside in winter.
After the kids were done snow jumping and falling, we ventured into the edge of the "forest" to see what else we could find.
There was so much beautiful hoar frost covering all of the trees and shrubs. I am such a fan, and the kids were too. They loved shaking the branches and making it "snow".
Right after this last shot was taken, Townes dropped his soother (on purpose) so he could grab a mitt full of snow and eat it. I grabbed his soother to put it in my pocket and panic set in. I realized I had dropped my phone out of my pocket - into this snowy winter wonderland!
Amazingly, it was found - and still works (after having a lengthy rice bath), but boy was I worried. Not so much about the phone itself, but about the photos on it that I hadn't backed up yet. A little reminder that I should be just as thorough with backing up my personal photos as I am with client photos. Lesson learned!
With the warmer weather we've had, this beautiful frost is now gone. But I am hoping we get another run of it at least once more this season. It's definitely one of my favourite things about winter.
Are you a fan of winter? I'd love to know what your favourite (or least favourite) thing about it is in the comments below!
52 Frames - Week Five - Falling - Edmonton Family Photographer
My selected photo for week 5 of the 52 Frames Challenge - "Falling".
Week five's theme for the 52 Frames Challenge was "Falling".
I grabbed this shot on day three of the beautiful hoar frost filled days we had last week. The sun decided to come out and I hurried the kids to get dressed and out the door so we could get some photos before the sun melted away the frost.
This field is our new favourite spot to adventure, and it's only a few minute drive from our house. When we got there we saw that the snow had hardened and it was strong enough for the kids (and me in places) to walk on. They had a blast running and jumping trying to break through the top of the snow. I'll post a full blog post of our afternoon here tomorrow. :)
52 Frames - Week Four - Leading Lines - Edmonton Photographer
My selected photo for Week 4 of the 52 Frames Challenge - Leading Lines
Week four of the 52 Frames project was Leading Lines.
I was downtown last week running some errands, so I brought my camera along just in case something peaked my interest. I grabbed this shot coming up into City Hall from the parkade.
It's not my usual type of edit, but I liked the simplicity of it, so I went with it.
