52 Frames - Week Five - Falling - Edmonton Family Photographer

My selected photo for week 5 of the 52 Frames Challenge - "Falling".

Week five's theme for the 52 Frames Challenge was "Falling".

I grabbed this shot on day three of the beautiful hoar frost filled days we had last week. The sun decided to come out and I hurried the kids to get dressed and out the door so we could get some photos before the sun melted away the frost.

This field is our new favourite spot to adventure, and it's only a few minute drive from our house. When we got there we saw that the snow had hardened and it was strong enough for the kids (and me in places) to walk on. They had a blast running and jumping trying to break through the top of the snow. I'll post a full blog post of our afternoon here tomorrow. :)

52 Frames - Week Two - Rule of Thirds - Edmonton Family Photographer

My submission for week two of the 52 Frames photo Challenge. Topic: Rule of Thirds.

This past week was Week Two of the 52 Frames Challenge.  The topic was Rule of Thirds.  A way to go back to the basic 'rules' of photography.

We had a beautiful frosty day this week so I took the boys out for a little adventure through this lovely treed area just a few minutes from our house. It was cold, but they still had a ton of fun trekking through the deep snow, and taking turns throwing snow in the air. Townes did a pretty good job of keeping up with Elliot even though he was wearing a giant puffy snowsuit.

Here's my submission for this week's challenge:

Edmonton Family Photographer - frosty day

I'm going to try to post every Monday with my weekly challenge submissions.

Are you doing any personal photo challenges this year? I'd love to know which ones in the comments below.

An Ice Castle Wonderland

Last Sunday was not only Valentine's Day, but my youngest son's birthday.  We decided a visit to the Ice Castle was finally in order.  What a magical place.  Elliot had a blast walking through all of the tunnels and walkways, and splashing in some puddles along the way, but his favourite part was definitely the ice slide.  He and his friend must have gone down it at least ten times.

Townes wanted to walk and explore on his own, too. He was a bit wobbly, as the ground was quite uneven for such little feet, but he did pretty well. He kept looking up at the ice walls and I wish I knew what he was thinking.

I'm hoping the castle returns next year. It would be nice to visit it earlier in the season. Were you able to visit? I'd love to know how your experience was!

Snow Day - Edmonton Family Photographer

I woke up to the sight of beautiful, frosty trees.  Since our mornings are usually a bit hectic, I crossed my fingers the frost would stay until the end of the day - and to my surprise it did! I couldn't resist taking the kids out to my secret spot to play in the snow, and I'm so glad I did because the location was beautiful with all of the coated-white trees.  Townes wasn't as into it as I thought he would be, but Elliot had so much fun running, jumping, making snow angels, and throwing snow up into the air for it to fall down on him.  If I loved snow half as much as this kid does, I'd make it through winter a lot easier.
