Weekly Photo Challenge - Weeks 13-16 - Edmonton Photographer
My selected photos for weeks 13-16 of the 52 Frames Photo Challenge.
Alright, alright, I know I said I would keep up with posting my weekly challenge every Monday, but once again I've fallen behind. So, here's a catch-up post - yay!
Week 13 - Details
This week we were to get in close to our subject and record those smaller details. I have been documenting our spring seedling growth, and used my tomato seedlings as my subject. I just love watching them grow. It seems they grow so much every day.
Week 14 - The Big Picture
This week we were to zoom out and look at the big picture. I happened to be downtown one warm, sunny afternoon and thought I'd grab a shot of the city scape. Here's Edmonton, from north of the river just east of 82nd street.
Week 15 - Street Photography
This week we were to go to the street and capture some street photography. This is something I haven't done before. I'll be honest, this week I kind of forgot about the challenge until the last day (Sunday), and when I finally made it down to what I thought would be a busy street, it was quite the opposite. Most the shops were closed, and people were sparse. I decided to grab some movement from a car passing by using a slow shutter.
Week 16 - Lamp
This week we were to use a single light source for our photo. I decided to grab a shot of Elliot reading by the light of his flashlight.
That's all for now! I'd better get thinking about my subject for this week's challenge. :)
National Puppy Day 2017 - Edmonton Family Photographer - Edmonton Pet Photographer
A selection of images featuring my two pups for National Puppy Day 2017.
Early this morning when I opened my Facebook, I was greeted with this iPhone snap from six years ago. It was of my pup wearing a cone after his neuter surgery. Soon after perusing Facebook a bit, I learned today was National Puppy Day. Did I ever feel awful for scheduling his surgery (even though all those years ago) on National Puppy Day. Sorry, Bud.
National Puppy Day is a day not only to celebrate our pups, but also a day to help bring awareness to the terrible puppy mill situation. Millions of dogs are improperly bred for profit and mistreated along the way. If you're looking to add a puppy to your family, remember to adopt - don't shop from pet stores or backyard breeders or puppy mills. If you are looking to add a purebred puppy to your family, always do extensive research about the breeder. Contact your national breed club who may have a list of reputable breeders in your area. With the awareness rising, hopefully one day these illegal mills and backyard breeders will be shut down.
A few great ways to celebrate National Puppy Day are:
- Take your pup(s) for an extra long walk!
- Adopt a puppy! But only if your family is ready. Remember to find a great trainer to get your training off to the right start.
- Donate to a local shelter and/or rescue.
- Have a puppy party or visit a dog park and make some new friends.
In honour of National Puppy Day, I thought I'd share some photos of my two pups. They're half brother and sister, two years apart. People have a hard time telling them apart, but they really couldn't be any different personality-wise.
Here are a few of my favourites from the last few weeks:
Are you doing anything to celebrate National Puppy Day? I'd love it if you left a comment below and let me know! :)
Week 12 - Gratitude - Edmonton Family Photographer
Week 12 - Gratitude - A selection of photos included in the theme Gratitude.
Week 12's photo challenge topic was Gratitude.
Of course, my kids come to mind first. This was the photo I selected for my weekly image.
Grateful for these little piggies.
Some other photos from last week:
52 Frames - Week 11 - High Key - Edmonton Family Photographer
Week ten's topic was high key. High key photography is basically eliminating shadows by letting more light into the camera. So majority of the tones in the photograph are in the highlight region. A lot of the time studio lighting is used. I was being a tad lazy and didn't want to haul out my lights, which have been packed away for a while, so I did mine with natural lighting in my living room.
I asked Elliot to grab his trumpet and he was happy to be my model for a couple minutes. This was the shot I submitted:
This was a bit of a challenge for me, since it's not something I'd normally shoot, but it was a fun learning experience.
Here are a few others from my quick two minute shoot with Elliot and another minute or so with Townes. These two don't like to sit still for photos at all.
Elliot and his trusty Pokéball.
Next week's topic is Gratitude. Looking forward to that one.
52 Frames - Week 8, 9, and 10 - Edmonton Photographer
My photos for weeks 8, 9 and 10 of the 52 Frames Challenge.
So, I had originally planned to post my weekly challenge photo every Monday, but life has gotten in my way and I've totally slacked.
The flu has made it's way through my family, one by one, so the last few weeks have been a bit scattered. But we are all doing much better and I'm ready to get back into it!
Also, the countdown to spring has began. We have our seeds planted, and they have already sprouted. I'll have a bit more on that in another post, I hope.
So without further delay, here are my photos from weeks 8, 9 and 10. I'm hoping to not fall too far behind with these again, but no guarantees! haha.
Week 8 - Religion
I'm not religious at all. Religion is something that I've questioned a lot in my past, and struggled with a bit, but in the end, I've just decided it's not for me. So I tried to think about something in my life that is a sort of religion. A constant. Something to turn to in good times, and hard times. Something I am faithful to and that guides me. Similar to a religion for people. For me, that's music. I'll admit, my idea was a bit cliche, but I went with it anyways. I grabbed some of my favourite albums and my trusty headphones and came up with this:
Week 9 - Negative Space
I started this week off shooting one of my close friend's beautiful wedding. And seriously, what a wonderful wedding. Full of style, friends and family, and succulents! Since I didn't shoot at all this week after the wedding, I decided to use one from it for this week's photo. We hit up the amazing HSBC Parkade downtown for some formals and it did not disappoint. The weather was a bit cloudy, but we totally lucked out temperature wise for a winter wedding. How about that gorgeous couple!
Week 10 - Pattern
This week was all about pattern. I was hoping to get outside and find some great patterns with buildings or bridges, but due to the flu, it just didn't happen. I am not sure if I even left my house this week, so my photo was a bit of a stretch, I'm not going to lie. Anyways, I thought I'd try to capture the pattern on this peace lily's leaves against our freshly primed white wall (have I mentioned how excited I am to have nice bright walls, finally?!). I combined a bit of last week's topic (negative space) too.
That's all for now! It's hard to believe we are already more than 10 weeks into the new year. They have just flown by faster than I was expecting. It will be green, and sunny, and warm before we know it!
Are you looking forward to spring as much as I am? I'd love to know what your favourite thing about the spring season is in the comments below!
